Events present a different way to do Pride
by Anthony Glassman
Dayton--A picnic in Kettering and a concert in Sandusky on June 12 presented different approaches to Pride Month festivities than the typical parade-and-festival model.
The picnic was presented by Diversity Dayton, while the concert with Jamie Anderson in Sandusky was organized by Firelands Pride.
?After this entertainment event, we went down to Club X for a fantastic picnic that was donated by Harvey Hayes, the club?s owner,? said Firelands Pride committee member John Baker. ?It was a great time!?
The Diversity Day picnic drew about 50 people to the park in Kettering. Figures were not available for the Firelands Pride event.
?I want to put out a very special ?thank you? to Dan Tepfer and all of the Dayton P-FLAG members who helped with the event food,? said R.J. McKay, coordinator of Diversity Dayton. ?We could not have done this without their help!?
According to McKay, rain in the morning dampened attendance, but the afternoon weather was perfect.
?This year?s event is already being scrutinized, so next year?s event should be even bigger and better,? he noted.
